Kollar announced that Joshua Dasalia-Soto, age 26, of Līhu‘e, was on Wednesday sentenced to serve a five-year prison sentence for illegal possession of hydrocodone. The Honorable 5th Circuit Court Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe handed down the sentence for one count of Promoting a Dangerous Drug in the third degree today after hearing argument from Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Tim Tate and Dasalia-Soto’s Public Defender. On September 29 of last year, Dasalia-Soto was in the process of being arrested for a domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend when he was found to be in the possession of the unprescribed narcotics. On May 22 of this year, Dasalia-Soto was sentenced to serve jail time and probation, including domestic violence intervention counseling, in the case arising out of the domestic violence incident. Although placed on supervised release pending sentencing in the drug case, Dasalia- Soto repeatedly failed to comply with the terms of his release while out of custody. Kollar stated: “This defendant has shown that he cannot abide by the rules of our society; substance abuse and domestic violence go hand-in-hand and my Office will continue to do what is necessary to protect our community from these scourges.” ###
