Child in critical condition after being struck by vehicle
WAILUA – A four-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being struck by a pickup
truck on Sunday afternoon at Lydgate Beach Park in Wailua.
The boy was struck by a Nissan pickup truck when the driver of the truck was attempting
to park near the Kamalani playground restrooms shortly before 5 p.m.
The boy sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Responding firefighters and
medics performed CPR at the scene. The boy was then transported by ambulance to Wilcox
Hospital and medevaced later that evening to O‘ahu.
The driver of the Nissan truck was not injured.
Investigators with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section responded to conduct an on-scene
investigation. The cause of the crash remains under police investigation, but speed and alcohol
do not appear to be factors.
