Managing Director KAUA‘I POLICE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: September 4, 2017 DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Child in critical condition after being struck by vehicle WAILUA – A four-year-old boy remains in critical condition after being struck by a pickup truck on Sunday afternoon at Lydgate Beach Park in Wailua. The boy was struck by a Nissan pickup truck when the driver of the truck was attempting to park near the Kamalani playground restrooms shortly before 5 p.m. The boy sustained severe injuries as a result of the crash. Responding firefighters and medics performed CPR at the scene. The boy was then transported by ambulance to Wilcox Hospital and medevaced later that evening to O‘ahu. The driver of the Nissan truck was not injured. Investigators with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section responded to conduct an on-scene investigation. The cause of the crash remains under police investigation, but speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. ###
