Winn, First Deputy Rebecca Vogt Like, Second Deputy Diana Gausepohl-White, Victim/Witness Program Director FY 2019 Budget Presentation – Office of the Prosecuting Attorney Page 2 Office of the Prosecuting Attorney Mission It is our mission to promote the fair, impartial and expeditious pursuit of justice in every case, to ensure safer communities, and to promote integrity in our profession. It is our mission to temper justice with compassion, and to do our work in an open, transparent, and accountable way. Vision Our vision is for a safe and healthy community, where: • Offenders are held accountable • Case dispositions are appropriate for offense and offender • Timely and efficient administration of justice occurs • Service delivery is improved for victims and witnesses • Crime is reduced • Fear of crime is reduced Our vision is for an OPA that exemplifies: • Competent and professional behavior • Efficient, fiscally responsible management and administration, and • Consistent, coordinated enforcement efforts and administration of justice. FY 18 Successes and Achievements Successful integration of OPA CMS with KPD RMS ensuring seamless and instantaneous conferral of cases from KPD to OPA. Successful roll-out of electronic BWC discovery to criminal defense bar, dramatically decreasing burden on our clerks and investigators. Successful implementation of mobile CMS on 2-in-1 portable devices. Successful first year for the Drug Nuisance Abatement Unit (12 drug houses closed down!). Increased partnerships with United States Attorney’s Office (Project Safe Neighborhoods). Trial advocacy training provided to entire DPA staff. FY 18 Challenges Critical lack of forensic laboratory services, leading to delayed prosecution in drug offenses and OVUII cases. Increase in number of drug cases has placed burdens on our attorney staff. We need more staff. Current space envelope is beyond capacity. We badly need additional space. FY 2019 Budget Presentation – Office of the Prosecuting Attorney Page 3 Position 9102 – Process Server - Funding for 0.40 FTE covered by grant has been halted from the Department of Justice FY2017 Edward Byrne Formula Grant. The amount of funds total $37,043 (?). Funds have been covered by County. FY 19 Goals and Objectives Find a new home for our Victim/Witness Program. Our current space envelope is beyond capacity. Complete implementation of e-discovery procedures. Seek and obtain additional grants. Assist KPD with setup and operation of T3 wiretap room.
