Kauai RSVP, RSVP Advisory Council holding collection drive
to benefit Kumu's Cupboard
LIHU`E — As part of the Corporation for National and Community Service special
initiative for Martin Luther King Day of Service, Senior Corps members of Kauai RSVP (Retired
and Senior Volunteer Program) and the RSVP Advisory Council will be leading a collection drive
to benefit Kumu's Cupboard, a store in Kukui Grove Shopping Center where Kaua`i's educators
can shop for free.
The drive will go through Friday, Jan. 26, and donations can be dropped off at the Kauai
RSVP/Elderly Affairs Office during normal business hours at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330, in
Lihu`e.
There will also be two Saturday collections on Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
at Times Supermarket and Kmart in Lihu`e.
Suggested items for collection include school office supplies; materials for art and
science projects; and student incentives, such as stickers, books, games, small toys.
MLK Day is an opportunity to bring people together to honor Dr. King's life and legacy
and help further his dream through service.
Kauai RSVP is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the
federal agency for volunteering, service, and civic engagement and is sponsored by the County
of Kaua`i's Agency on Elderly Affairs.
Kumu's Cupboard is filled with school supplies, office supplies, books, teacher
resources, materials for art, math, and science projects, and student incentives. Kaua`i's K-12
public, private, and charter school educators can visit the store monthly to shop at no cost for
supplies to use in their classroom. Kumu's Cupboard is community supported and volunteer run
and is operated through monetary donations as well as donated supplies.
