Rezentes Jr. Managing Director KEALOHA TAKAHASHI, EXECUTIVE Tel (808) 241-4470 Fax (808) 241-5113 Kauai RSVP, RSVP Advisory Council holding collection drive to benefit Kumu's Cupboard LIHU`E — As part of the Corporation for National and Community Service special initiative for Martin Luther King Day of Service, Senior Corps members of Kauai RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) and the RSVP Advisory Council will be leading a collection drive to benefit Kumu's Cupboard, a store in Kukui Grove Shopping Center where Kaua`i's educators can shop for free. The drive will go through Friday, Jan. 26, and donations can be dropped off at the Kauai RSVP/Elderly Affairs Office during normal business hours at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330, in Lihu`e. There will also be two Saturday collections on Jan. 13 and Jan. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Times Supermarket and Kmart in Lihu`e. Suggested items for collection include school office supplies; materials for art and science projects; and student incentives, such as stickers, books, games, small toys. MLK Day is an opportunity to bring people together to honor Dr. King's life and legacy and help further his dream through service. Kauai RSVP is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency for volunteering, service, and civic engagement and is sponsored by the County of Kaua`i's Agency on Elderly Affairs. Kumu's Cupboard is filled with school supplies, office supplies, books, teacher resources, materials for art, math, and science projects, and student incentives. Kaua`i's K-12 public, private, and charter school educators can visit the store monthly to shop at no cost for supplies to use in their classroom. Kumu's Cupboard is community supported and volunteer run and is operated through monetary donations as well as donated supplies. For more information, please call the Kauai RSVP office at 241-4479.
