OED to provide funding for projects, activities that support sustainable,
economic development on island
LIHU`E — In keeping with its commitment to foster sustainable economic development on
Kauai via an open process, the County of Kaua`i's Office of Economic Development solicited,
reviewed, and scored competitive proposals.
OED announces it will be providing funding of $432,701 to 29 projects or activities that
support sustainable, economic development for Kaua'i County for the 17-18 fiscal year.
"It is crucial that we support and fund these important sectors in our community," said Mayor
Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. "The grants that are being provided will create jobs, continue to
diversify our economy, and ensure our island's future and well-being."
Programs include agriculture, tourism, film, workforce, emerging industry, and community
capacity building:
• Nine recipients in the agriculture sector awarded a total of $204,101
• One recipient in the workforce sector awarded a total of $4,600
• One recipient in the Film sector awarded a total of $5,000
• Seven recipients in the Emerging Industry, Community Capacity Building and Economic
Development sector awarded a total of $111,500
• Eleven recipients in the tourism sector awarded a total of $107,500
