Police continue to investigate Hanama`ulu crash
HANAMA`ULU — Police are continuing to investigate an apparent hit-and-run crash that
occurred on Jan. 11, in Hanama'ulu, which resulted in critical injuries to a 12-year-old girl.
The victim remains in critical condition at Queen's Hospital.
"There is public speculation regarding the circumstances of this case, but it is important
for me to remind everyone that this investigation is ongoing," stated Kauai Police Chief Darryl
Perry. "While we understand the frustration relating to the limited information that has been
shared so far, we are mandated by law to follow up on any and all leads in order to secure
justice for the victim and her family. Every available statement and evidence must be gathered
so that a thorough and objective investigation is conducted. We continue to ask the public, if you
have any information on this incident or the driver involved, to call police immediately."
At approximately 7 a.m. on Jan. 11, police received a report of a child injured along
Laukona Street, just south of the Ho`ohana Street junction, in HanamNulu.
According to a preliminary investigation, the child appears to have been walking along
Laukona Street when she was struck by a vehicle. The involved vehicle was not at the scene
when police arrived.
No arrests have yet been made at this time.
Anyone with any information relating to this incident, which occurred between 6:45 a.m.
and 7 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, is asked to call Traffic Investigator Shawn Hanna at 241-1618,
