Community invited to Kilauea Safe Routes to School workshops
In partnership with Kilauea School, the Kilauea community, Get Fit Kauai, and the
County of Kauai, the community is invited to participate in Kilauea community planning
workshops to help design the upcoming Safe Routes to School Action Plan for Kilauea School.
There will be a series of meetings and events on Jan. 30, Feb. 1, and Feb. 8 that are
scheduled during the daytime and the evenings — so the community may participate at times
that are convenient to them. Children's activities are planned for the evening meetings, so
families are encouraged to participate.
"The purpose of the Action Plan is to identify challenges, goals, and solutions to make it
safer for keiki and families to walk or bike to Kilauea School," said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr.
"The intensive week-long process is intended to be community driven, to ensure that solutions
reflect the community's values and needs."
The Safe Routes to School program is part of the Mayor's Holo Holo 2020 Vision and
relies on partnerships with schools, neighborhoods, and community coalitions such as Get Fit
Kauai to be successful.
