No structures were damaged and no injuries were reported. Multiple units were dispatched to the scene shortly before 3 p.m. to find approximately 0.5 acre of land burning behind Tapa Street and Weliweli Road in Koloa. Firefighters from the K61oa fire station were first on scene, and were soon assisted by personnel from the Kalaheo fire station. The fire was under control at approximately 3:20 p.m. and fully extinguished shortly after. The fire originated after a resident began burning trash on a nearby property. "Backyard burning of yard waste and household trash is prohibited in Hawai'i," said Fire Chief Robert Westerman. "If it weren't for the quick actions of our firefighters, this preventable situation could have turned into a devastating outcome."
