Nominations accepted for Outstanding Older Americans awards
The public is invited to submit nominations for the 2018 Outstanding Male and
Female Older American awards.
The goal of the program is to pay tribute to adults 65 and older who have made
exceptional contributions to their community through service and/or special projects.
Nomination forms are available at the Agency on Elderly Affairs (AEA), Monday
to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The AEA is located at the Lihu`e Civic Center, Pi`ikoi
Building, Suite 330.
The deadline to submit nominations is Friday, March 9, 2018
All nominees will be honored at an awards ceremony in May. The 2018
Outstanding Male and Female Older Americans will be announced at this event. Those
selected will represent Kauai at a ceremony held on Oahu in June.
Earlier this month, the Administration for Community Living announced the theme
for this year's Older American's Month, "Engage at Every Age," which is celebrated in
May.
"The theme emphasizes that you are never too old (or too young) to take part in
activities that can enrich your physical, mental and emotional well-being," said Kealoha
Takahashi, Executive on Aging. "Participating in activities that promote mental and
physical wellness, offering your wisdom and experience to the next generation, seeking
the mentorship of someone with more life experience than you- these are just a few
examples of what being engaged can mean."
For more information, please call the AEA at 241-4470.
