Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA'I KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: February 4, 2018 ELTON LISHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 6:45 p.m. update: Kuhio Highway closed near Hanalei Bridge as Flash Flood Warning remains in effect; Hanalei School open as Red Cross shelter Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice due to a Flash Flood Warning for the island of Kaua'i. Heavy rains are occurring over the islands, according to the National Weather Service. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. Hanalei School is now open as a Red Cross Shelter. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast -flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. Please exercise caution on the roadways and please stay tuned to local media for updates. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution. For updates on road conditions and closures, please call 241-1725.
