Police investigate vandalism at public restroom
KEALIA — Kaua`i police and the Department of Parks and Recreation are seeking the
public's assistance in finding those responsible for the recent vandalism of a public restroom in
Kealia.
On Monday, the county's facilities maintenance staff discovered black painted graffiti on
the walls of the comfort station located in the parking lot of Paliku Beach, also known as Donkey
Beach, in Kealia. The restroom had just been repainted due to a previous graffiti incident.
"It is incredibly disheartening and frustrating to see this type of vandalism reoccurring in
our public facilities," stated Department of Parks and Recreation Director Lenny Rapozo. "It is
unfair that our community will ultimately pay the price for these crimes. We are hoping the public
can help us find those responsible, so that they will be held accountable."
Police believe the incident occurred sometime between 9 a.m. on Feb. 6, and 8:45 a.m.
on Feb. 12.
It will cost the county approximately $4,000 to repaint the facility.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information about the vandalism is urged to call Police Dispatch at 241-
1711. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Kauai CrimeStoppers at 246-8300. Tipsters
are eligible to receive a cash reward from Kauai CrimeStoppers if the information provided
leads to an arrest.
