12 P.M. UPDATE: Kuhio Highway closed near Hanalei Bridge as Flash Flood
Warning remains in effect
Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice due to a
Flash Flood Warning for the island of Kaua'i. The American Red Cross is in the process of
opening a shelter at Hanalei Elementary School.
The Department of Education has announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed
to students today.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed the Kalalau Trail until
further notice.
Green waste services at the Hanalei, Kapa`a, and Hanap6p6 transfer stations are closed,
including tires, scrap metal and appliance recycling at the Hanap6p6 transfer station.
A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads,
and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast -flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The
warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop.
Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must
drive, please do so with extreme caution.
