UPDATE: Kuhio Highway closed near Hanalei Bridge; landslide reported in Wainiha Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is closed until further notice due to flooding. A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for the island of Kauai. School. The American Red Cross is in the process of opening a shelter at Hanalei Elementary The state Department of Transportation reports that a landslide has occurred in Wainiha, near mile marker 5, and officials are currently responding to the scene. The Department of Education has announced that Hanalei Elementary School is closed to students today, March 15. The Kalalau Trail remains closed until further notice by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources. The county has closed green waste disposal operations at all refuse transfer stations. All services at the Kekaha landfill are open, and green waste disposal is for residents only at this location. Additionally, the Hanapepe refuse transfer station is also not accepting tires, scrap metal and appliances. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads, and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast -flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution. For updates on road conditions and closures, please call 241-1725. Please do not call Kauai police 911 unless you have an emergency.
