Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA'I KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: April 14, 2018 ELTON LISHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 5:15 p.m. UPDATE: Kuhio Highway in Waikoko and Wainhia to remain closed in both directions throughout tonight Both lanes of Kuhio Highway in Waikoko and Wainiha will remain closed in both directions throughout Saturday night following three landslides that occurred in the area at approximately 2 p.m. State Department of Transportation crews were working to clear the landslide but heavy rains and hazardous conditions forced the crews to stop work. Crews will reassess the situation Sunday morning. No injuries were reported. Kuhio Highway also remains closed in the vicinity of H5'ena Beach Park and the Dry Cave due to rushing waters. A "Road Flooded" sign and cones have been posted in the area. The Kaua'i Police Department is advising motorists to avoid the area if at all possible. A Flash Flood Watch remains in effect for the island of Kauai. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding.
