"Do not drink" advisory issued for customers located along a portion of
Kuhio Highway in Haena
HAENA — The Department of Water (DOW) has issued a "Do not drink" advisory for residents located along
a portion of Kuhio Highway; between Manoa Stream and the Limahuli Stream area in Haena. DOW has
completed the repairs to the damaged mainline to begin restoring water services to customers at
approximately 3:00 p.m. this afternoon, however due to the impact of the damage to the mainline and
possible exposure of the service lines, DOW is advising residents not to drink or cook with tap -water, as
precautionary measure, until further notice.
Customers should be advised that when the water main is turned back on, air and or existing sediment may
be mixed in the water causing it appear white or discolored. This is normal, and if it occurs, customers may
flush water out through an outside hose bib until the water is clear.
As a courtesy, a trailer -mounted water tank with potable water is available at YMCA's Camp Naue
located at 7420 Kuhio Highway in Hanalei. Customers must bring their own water containers.
DOW urges residents to please share this information with other residents and guests that may reside along
Kuhio Highway; between Manoa Stream and the Limahuli Stream area in Haena, especially those who may
not have received this notice directly (for example, people without access to media updates, residents that
do not receive Blackboard Connect notices, etc.)
Officials will continue to work on assessing the damages and affects to the water system in the area to
determine whether to continue this advisory.
An update will be issued as new information becomes available. To monitor updates online visit the
Department of Water and County of Kauai's facebook pages at www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW and
www.facebook.com/countvofkauai.
To sign up for Blackboard Connect, the county's emergency notification service, please go to the
county's website, www.kauai.gov/KEMA or by calling KEMA at 241-1800.
