Kekaha man dies from injuries following traffic crash
KEKAHA — A 76-year-old man died from his injuries following a traffic collision in Kekaha
Saturday night.
Police have identified the man as Wilfred Ibara of Kekaha.
According to a preliminary investigation, Ibarra was walking in the eastbound lane of
Kaumuali`i Highway near Manu Road in Kekaha, when he was struck. The driver of a vehicle
heading east saw the man and came to a sudden stop. However, a second vehicle travelling
directly behind was unable to stop in time and it crashed into the first vehicle. The collision
pushed the first vehicle forward striking Ibarra.
Ibarra was conscious with injuries to his head and hip, and was transported to Wilcox
Hospital. Police later learned that Ibarra had died from his injuries on Sunday morning.
The investigation remains ongoing, however speed and alcohol/drugs do not appear to
be factors in this collision.
This is the first traffic fatality on Kauai in 2018.
