Emergency water service shut down for a portion of Kuamoo Road in
Wailua, today May 9
WAILUA- The Department of Water (DOW) has announced an emergency water service shutdown for
select Wailua customers located on Lihau Street, Aleo Street, Kuhoho Street, Paako Street, Molo Street,
Iliki Street, Alahele Street and Hie Street; including a portion of Kuamoo Road, between Opaekaa Road
and Paako Street in Wailua, due to an 8-inch mainline break. DOW crews are currently conducting
investigation of the break to determine the location and system requirements in order to repair the
underground leak.
The start time and duration of the water service shutdown will be determined upon completion of initial
investigations and will be announced this afternoon, May 9, 2018.
The emergency water service shutdown is necessary in order to avoid further flooding of the area.
Customers located in the affected area are advised to prepare for the water service shutdown by taking
the following steps:
• Store enough water to meet your needs for approximately 6 to 8 hours.
• Notify friends, family and neighbors in the affected areas of the shutdown.
• Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the
shutdown.

Additionally, a partial one -lane road closure and traffic control is scheduled to be in place during the
emergency repair work along Kuamoo Road. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution through the
area.
An update will be announced as new information is received.
