Mayor �g OF Managing Director s COUNTY OF KAUA'I DEPARTMENT OF PARKS & RECREATION News Release For Immediate Release: May 7, 2018 LENNY RAPOZO, DIRECTOR Tel (808) 241-4460 Fax (808) 241-5126 Online registration for Summer Enrichment Program begins May 9 LIHU`E — County officials announced that online registration for the Summer Enrichment Program (SEP) will begin on Wednesday, May 9, 8 a.m., on the county website, www.kauai.gov/SummerPrograms. The theme for this year is "Discover Hawai'i" and many of the activities will focus on this. The session runs for six weeks from June 12 to July 20, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Fourth of July holiday will be observed. The program is open to youngsters, age's 5 to 11. Program sites include the Kilauea, Lihu`e, Kalaheo, Hanap6p6, and Kekaha neighborhood centers, as well as King Kaumuali'i, K61oa and Wilcox elementary schools as well as Kapa'a Middle School. Enrollment is limited and will be handled on a first -come, first -served basis. The fee schedule is as follows: ■ One child, $77.63, including processing fee ■ Two children, $97.85, including processing fee ■ Three children, $119.25, including processing fee ■ Four children, $139.73, including processing fee All major credit cards will be accepted for payment including: American Express, Master Card, VISA and Discover. In addition, debit and pre -paid credit cards will be accepted. Lunch will be provided free of charge, except on Wednesdays. Parents will need to provide their children with snacks and drinks each day throughout the program. Lunch will be prepared through the Department of Education School Food Services Branch and funded by the County of Kauai with service between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The meal will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service. Another summer program offered by the county is the Junior Leader Program, which is designed to offer young people ages 12 to 16 the opportunity to work with participants in the Summer Enrichment Program. To be considered for this program, applicants must complete their application and essay titled "Why I would like to be a junior leader' online and email it to recadm kauai.gov. The deadline to apply for the Junior Leader Program is Friday, June 1. Registration for the summer golf classes will held on Monday, May 14, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Wailua Golf Course pro shop. The program is open to youngsters ages 7 to 15. The registration fee is $35 per child per session. Three two -week sessions are being offered at the Wailua Golf Course: June 12 to 22; June 25 to July 6; and July 9 to 20. The sessions will run Monday to Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and on Fridays, from 1 to 5 p.m. Participants will need to bring a golf bag along with the following clubs: a driver; No. 5, 7 and 9 irons; putter; and a pitching wedge. Sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, snack and a beverage are recommended. Registration for the summer swimming classes at the Kapa'a and Waimea swimming pools will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 26. The program is open to youngsters, age's 5 to 11. Enrollment is limited, and will be handled on a first -come, first -served basis. Two sessions are being offered, June 5 to June 29 and July 3 to July 27. The first session is for beginners, while the second session will have classes for beginning and advanced swimmers. The classes will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
