Juvenile detained for terroristic threatening
KAPA`A — Kaua`i Police conducted an investigation and detained a male juvenile student
on Tuesday morning after receiving reports of a possible terror threat at Kapa`a High School.
According to police, on Monday the student allegedly made threats that alarmed the
school and another male student after being taunted on campus.
Police were notified and detained the 15-year-old male of Wailua for Terroristic
Threatening in the Second Degree. The juvenile has since been released to his parent.
"Terroristic threatening is a very serious crime and it should never be taken lightly," said
Deputy Chief Michael Contrades. "We cannot stress enough that these crimes hold
consequences, and if you hear of a threat being made please report it to police immediately."
With the juvenile in custody, Kapa`a High School remained open on Tuesday. School
officials announced that a notice to parents and guardians would be released.
Additionally on Tuesday, school officials conducted a planned evacuation drill of the
Kapa`a Middle School campus. This drill was not related to the threat made at Kapa`a High
School.
