Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA`I KAUA`I FIRE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: May 25, 2018 ROBERT WESTERMAN, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-4980 Fax (808) 241-6508 Registration open for Teen CERT classes in Li-hu`e LIHU`E — The Kauai Fire Department, along with the University of Hawaii 4-H Youth Development Program, is offering a free preparedness program in June for teens ages 13 through 18. The program is a three-day course held from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., from June 26 through June 28. It will be held at the State of Hawaii Office located at 3060 Eiwa St. in Lihu`e, in Conference Room 209. The program is part of the MyPI Hawaii Youth Preparedness Initiative and consists of training in CPR, AED, Teen CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), along with a technology and career track, and a service project to help seven families create an emergency plan and kit. Participants will learn about disaster preparedness, fire safety and suppression, treatment of injuries, search and rescue, and more. The MyPI program helps teens build life- saving skills, give back to their community, and be empowered through education. Interested participants may register online at https:Hmypihawaii.orci/students. Parents are asked to bring their signed waiver and photo consent form on the first day of the course. Participants who complete the program will receive a free backpack along with an emergency response kit.
