Employee of the Month recognized at Police Commission Meeting
LIHU'E — The Kauai Police Department (KPD) recognized Det. Colin Nesbitt as the
Employee of the Month during May's Police Commission meeting held on May 25 at the Pi`ikoi
Building.
The Investigative Services Bureau honored Det. Nesbitt for his outstanding investigative
work that led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Kauai man suspected of Promoting a Detrimental
Drug, and Promoting a Dangerous Drug.
On March 22, 2018, the Special Focus Section of the Investigative Services Bureau
conducted a special project near the East Kauai Professional Building after receiving reports of
increased burglaries and vehicle break-ins.
While conducting the project, Det. Nesbitt observed a male subject exhibiting suspicious
behavior while in and around his vehicle. Det. Nesbitt's investigation led to the arrest of the
suspect, without incident.
About a week later, a search warrant of the vehicle was executed which resulted in the
recovery of heroin, marijuana and a smoking device with methamphetamine.
"Due to Det. Nesbitt's keen investigative observations, not only was he able to recover
illegal narcotics from the vehicle, he prevented the subject from driving off in his vehicle and
putting the community in jeopardy," said Kauai Police Deputy Chief Michael Contrades. "I would
like to recognize and thank Det. Nesbitt for his excellent investigative skills and hard work during
this special project."
