Hiker's body recovered from Sleeping Giant trail
WAILUA — A Kauai man's body was recovered Tuesday morning from the Sleeping
Giant hiking trail in Wailua, after he apparently fell to his death Monday afternoon.
The man has been identified as Hunter Bilbo, age 24 of Wailua Homesteads.
According to police, the victim was hiking the Nounou Trail, also known as Sleeping
Giant, late Monday afternoon when he fell over the edge of a cliff and landed about 200 feet
below.
Kapa`a firefighters and Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 were dispatched to the area
around 3:30 p.m. After a nearly three-hour search, personnel in Air 1 spotted Bilbo's body in
heavy brush. However, nightfall and rough terrain forced recovery operations to conclude that
evening.
On Tuesday morning rescuers resumed their search and hiked into the area, where they
recovered Bilbo's body at approximately 11 a.m.
death.
An autopsy is pending, however, police do not suspect foul play in the cause of Bilbo's
