Managing Director DARRYL PERRY, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Hiker's body recovered from Sleeping Giant trail WAILUA — A Kauai man's body was recovered Tuesday morning from the Sleeping Giant hiking trail in Wailua, after he apparently fell to his death Monday afternoon. The man has been identified as Hunter Bilbo, age 24 of Wailua Homesteads. According to police, the victim was hiking the Nounou Trail, also known as Sleeping Giant, late Monday afternoon when he fell over the edge of a cliff and landed about 200 feet below. Kapa`a firefighters and Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 were dispatched to the area around 3:30 p.m. After a nearly three-hour search, personnel in Air 1 spotted Bilbo's body in heavy brush. However, nightfall and rough terrain forced recovery operations to conclude that evening. On Tuesday morning rescuers resumed their search and hiked into the area, where they recovered Bilbo's body at approximately 11 a.m. death. An autopsy is pending, however, police do not suspect foul play in the cause of Bilbo's Volunteers from Life's Bridges, a non-profit grief counseling service, is assisting the victim's family.
