Woman dies in waters off Po`ipu
PO'IPO — Kaua'i police report that a female visitor died while snorkeling in waters off
Po'ipu Beach Monday morning.
Police have identified her as Alicia Snakard, age 80, of Connecticut.
At approximately 10:45 a.m., Snakard went snorkeling in shallow waters off Po'ipu
Beach, east of the tombolo, with the assistance of a woman who was part of her family's group.
While in the water, Snakard was seen as unresponsive and was brought to shore by the
woman. Lifeguards on scene immediately began administering CPR.
Firefighters and medics arrived shortly after and continued resuscitation efforts. Snakard
was transported to Wilcox Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death, but foul play is not suspected.
Representatives from Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service, assisted Snakard's
family.
