Mayor Carvalho issues statement on FEMA Individual Assistance approval
Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. has issued the following statement in regards to the
President's approval to initiate the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Individual
Assistance program for Kauai and Oahu counties.
"The County of Kauai is incredibly grateful to our federal partners for approving the
state's appeal which recognized the significant destruction that Kaua'i residents have sustained
as a result of the severe flooding in April.
"FEMA's Individual Assistance program will directly benefit our homeowners, renters,
businesses, and others who were impacted financially and emotionally throughout these very
difficult months.
"With the upcoming opening of FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers on Kaua'i, we look
forward to continuing on this road to recovery together. I commend and thank our county, state
and community partners for their tireless work and persistence to ensure that our impacted
residents would not be overlooked."
