Sewer system smoke testing to be performed in Hanama`ulu and Waimea
next week
HANAMA'ULU and WAIMEA — The public is advised that the Wastewater Management
Division will be performing smoke testing on its sewer collection system in Hanama'ulu and
Waimea next week.
Smoke testing will be performed in the Kohea Loa subdivision in Hanama`ulu on
Tuesday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on Ala Wai Road between Waimea Road and
Menehune Road in Waimea on Wednesday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Smoke testing uses a non -toxic smoke and is helpful in identifying areas where
infiltration/inflow (storm water entering the sewer main) is occurring. The tests will consist of
approximately 20 minutes of work at each manhole in the area.
Traffic control, using flaggers, will be implemented in the work areas.
Motorists should drive with caution, expect delays, and adjust their travel times as
needed.
