Repair work for Kahiliholo Road to begin September; construction
complete by November
Repair work for a section of Kahiliholo Road damaged by the April flood is projected to
begin the first week of September, with construction to be completed by the end of the
November.
"We would like to thank the residents of the area for your patience and understanding
during this process," said Mayor Bernard Carvalho Jr. "This project would not have been
possible without our federal, state, county, and community partners who all worked together
since the devastating rain in April."
The scope of the work will include installing a concrete box culvert at a stream crossing
of Kahiliholo Road, to replace a corrugated metal pipe that was washed away during the record -
breaking flood. The work also includes replacement of the roadway embankment and pavement
within the area of the culvert.
On June 25, representatives with the Federal Emergency Management Agency
inspected the damaged section of Kahiliholo Road and later approved it for FEMA Public
Assistance, which would make it eligible for 75 percent reimbursement.
The project is currently out to bid.
