KPD installs new medication drop box
LIHU'E — The Kauai Police Department on Thursday installed its new medication drop
box at Police Headquarters in Lihu`e.
"A medication drop box provides a way for the public to safely dispose of unused
prescription medications all year long, and further prevents the misuse and abuse of these
drugs," stated Acting Chief of Police Michael Contrades. "The Kauai Police Department is
pleased to provide this medication drop box for our community."
KPD's new medication drop box program was formed through a statewide collaboration
between state, county and federal agencies including all four county police departments.
Anyone wishing to drop off unused prescription medication, can do so by placing it in a
clear bag and inserting it in the drop box.
Tablets, capsules, and all other solid dosage forms of medication — prescription or
nonprescription — including patches, are accepted. New or used needles and syringes are not
accepted.
This service is free and anonymous, and no questions will be asked.
For more information about the medication drop box program, please call 241-1681.
