Managing Director MICHALE CONTRADES, ACTING CHIEF Tel (808) 241-1600 Fax (808) 241-1604 Body recovered from Waikomo Stream during Tuesday's flood event on Kauai County officials are confirming one fatality that occurred during the flash flooding event on Kaua'i on Tuesday. Firefighters recovered the body of a 30-year-old Koloa man from Waikomo Stream in K61oa Tuesday afternoon. Police have identified him as Joshua Bradbury. According to preliminary reports, a male resident called 911 at approximately 2:40 p.m. when he witnessed Bradbury jump into Waikomo Stream, apparently to save a dog, when Bradbury then floated downstream and the bystander lost sight of him. The on -duty Battalion Fire Chief, Rescue 3 personnel, firefighters from the Koloa and Hanapepe stations, along with Ocean Safety lifeguards, responded to the area to search for Bradbury. With the help of bystanders, Bradbury's body was located shortly after 5 p.m. along the west bank of the stream. Bradbury was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Kaua'i police do not suspect foul play in the cause of his death. An autopsy is pending. The National Weather Service has confirmed that this week's heavy rain event on Kaua'i was a trailing rain band associated with the outer circulation of Tropical Depression Lane. NWS also confirms that flooding on August 27 and 28 at times approached the level of flooding seen during April's record -breaking flood event, especially in Wainiha and Hanalei Valley.
