Body recovered from Waikomo Stream during Tuesday's flood event on
Kauai
County officials are confirming one fatality that occurred during the flash flooding event
on Kaua'i on Tuesday.
Firefighters recovered the body of a 30-year-old Koloa man from Waikomo Stream in
K61oa Tuesday afternoon. Police have identified him as Joshua Bradbury.
According to preliminary reports, a male resident called 911 at approximately 2:40 p.m.
when he witnessed Bradbury jump into Waikomo Stream, apparently to save a dog, when
Bradbury then floated downstream and the bystander lost sight of him.
The on -duty Battalion Fire Chief, Rescue 3 personnel, firefighters from the Koloa and
Hanapepe stations, along with Ocean Safety lifeguards, responded to the area to search for
Bradbury.
With the help of bystanders, Bradbury's body was located shortly after 5 p.m. along the
west bank of the stream.
Bradbury was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Kaua'i police do not suspect foul play in the cause of his death. An autopsy is pending.
The National Weather Service has confirmed that this week's heavy rain event on Kaua'i
was a trailing rain band associated with the outer circulation of Tropical Depression Lane. NWS
also confirms that flooding on August 27 and 28 at times approached the level of flooding seen
during April's record -breaking flood event, especially in Wainiha and Hanalei Valley.
