Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA`I KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: August 27, 2018 ELTON LISHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 2:30 p.m., August 27, Update: Road closures and power outages announced Kuhib Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed until further notice due to a Flash Flood Warning for Kauai. As of 1 p.m., Kuhi6 Highway at the Wainiha bridge (mile marker 6.6) is closed due to flooding. Convoys on Kuhio Highway between Waikoko and Wainiha are halted until further notice. To monitor updates, please visit state DOT's Facebook page, www.facebook.com/HawaiiDepartmentOfTransportation. Ala Eke Road in Wainiha, and Kuhi6 Highway near Manoa Stream in Ha`ena are closed due to flooding. Kauai Island Utility Cooperative officials report there are power outages in Wainiha and Ha`ena, until further notice. KIUC troubleshooters are unable to access the area at this time due to the Kuhi6 Highway closures. Ocean Safety officials announce that all north shore lifeguard towers are closed until further notice. The state Department of Education announced that Hanalei Elementary School has closed. All students have been picked up and are no longer on campus. Green waste services at Hanalei and Kapa`a transfer stations are closed today. All other sites are open at this time, with the exception of the temporary transfer station at Kepuhi Point in Wainiha, which is closed. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast -flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected.
