Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA'I KAUA'I EMERGENCY MANAGEMEMENT AGENCY News Release For Immediate Release: August 27, 2018 ELTON LISHIO, ADMINISTRATOR Tel (808) 241-1800 Fax (808) 241-1860 5 p.m., August 27, Update: Kauai County under Flash Flood Warning and Flash Flood Watch; damage reports requested A Flash Flood Warning remains in effect for Kauai, and a Flash Flood Watch is now in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. A Flash Flood Warning means flash flooding is imminent or occurring in streams, roads and low-lying areas. Do not cross fast -flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot. The warning may be extended, dropped or modified as conditions develop. A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that leads to flash flooding. Residents and visitors should continue to monitor the weather and be prepared to take action if needed. Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution. Officials are announcing the following updates. DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FORMS All residents are advised to report any damages that have resulted from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Lane, including today's Flash Flood event. If your home was damaged, please visit www.kauai.gov and click on the "Lane Damage Form Aug 2018" icon and fill out a damage assessment form. The information you provide may be used to determine whether or not certain federal aid is made available to residents of Kauai and the State of Hawaii. Please contact KEMA at (808) 241-1800 if you require assistance with the form. ROAD CLOSURES • Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge remains closed. • State DOT announces that the Kuhio Highway convoy, between Waikoko and Wainiha, will resume at 5 p.m. today and will follow the Sunday/Holiday schedule for the remainder of the day as long as weather conditions allow. The highway's Sunday/Holiday convoy schedule can be found on the county's "Flood Recovery" page at www.kauai.gov. • Kuhio Highway near Manoa Stream in H5'ena remains closed. POWER OUTAGES Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) reports that the power outages in Wainiha and H5'ena remain until further notice. KIUC troubleshooters are unable to access the area at this time due to the Kuhio Highway closures. MORE INFORMATION For updates on road conditions and closures, please call 241-1725.
