The County of Kaua'i, Office of the County Clerk, recently received a 2018 achievement award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) "Engage, Educate and Enlighten the Community in the Legislative Process" Program. Councilmember Arryl Kaneshiro and Councilmember Mason K. Chock attended the recognition luncheon in Nashville/Davidson County, Tennessee, that was held at NACo's 2018 Annual Conference. The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents. "In recent years, the Office of the County Clerk has made great strides to improving our digital communications strategies by making Council information as accessible as possible through our website. We have led the charge for other County departments and agencies to become more transparent utilizing modern technology and continue to seek improvements to better serve our community. We are very proud that these efforts were recognized by NACo," said Mel Rapozo, Council Chair. (more) AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER Today, the County Clerk's website includes access to all meeting agendas, agenda packets with clickable links, lobbyist registration statements and expenditure statements, uncodified ordinances, electronic and user-friendly Kaua'i County Code, the Charter of the County of Kauai, all adopted resolutions, and more. The public is also able to sign-up to receive notices and agendas via E-mail, or submit testimony electronically. The Kaua'i County Council also utilizes a Facebook page to share information regularly. NACo President Roy Charles Brooks said, "Counties seize opportunities to deliver services more efficiently and build stronger communities every day. Achievement Award -winning programs are examples for counties that are determined to enhance services for our residents." Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast, comprehensive services counties provide. The categories include children and youth, criminal justice, county administration, information technology, health, civic engagement and many more. Started in 1970, NACo's annual Achievement Awards program is designed to recognize county government innovations. Each nominee is judged on its own merits and not against other applications received. The National Association of Counties (NACo) unites America's 3,069 county governments. Founded in 1935, NACo brings county officials together to advocate with a collective voice on national policy, exchange ideas and build new leadership skills, pursue transformational county solutions, enrich the public's understanding of county government and exercise exemplary leadership in public service.
