OFFICE OF THE COUNTY CLERK EARNS NATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
FROM NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF COUNTIES FOR COMMUNITY
ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS
Llhu'e, Kaua'i — The County of Kaua'i s Office of the County Clerk is one of the
top jurisdictions in the nation for civic education and public information.
The County of Kaua'i, Office of the County Clerk, recently received a 2018
achievement award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) "Engage,
Educate and Enlighten the Community in the Legislative Process" Program.
Councilmember Arryl Kaneshiro and Councilmember Mason K. Chock attended
the recognition luncheon in Nashville/Davidson County, Tennessee, that was held at
NACo's 2018 Annual Conference. The awards honor innovative, effective county
government programs that strengthen services for residents.
"In recent years, the Office of the County Clerk has made great strides to
improving our digital communications strategies by making Council information as
accessible as possible through our website. We have led the charge for other County
departments and agencies to become more transparent utilizing modern technology
and continue to seek improvements to better serve our community. We are very proud
that these efforts were recognized by NACo," said Mel Rapozo, Council Chair.

AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Today, the County Clerk's website includes access to all meeting agendas,
agenda packets with clickable links, lobbyist registration statements and expenditure
statements, uncodified ordinances, electronic and user-friendly Kaua'i County Code,
the Charter of the County of Kauai, all adopted resolutions, and more. The public is
also able to sign-up to receive notices and agendas via E-mail, or submit testimony
electronically. The Kaua'i County Council also utilizes a Facebook page to share
information regularly.
NACo President Roy Charles Brooks said, "Counties seize opportunities to
deliver services more efficiently and build stronger communities every day.
Achievement Award -winning programs are examples for counties that are determined
to enhance services for our residents."
Nationally, awards are given in 18 different categories that reflect the vast,
comprehensive services counties provide. The categories include children and youth,
criminal justice, county administration, information technology, health, civic
engagement and many more.
Started in 1970, NACo's annual Achievement Awards program is designed to
recognize county government innovations. Each nominee is judged on its own merits
and not against other applications received.
The National Association of Counties (NACo) unites America's 3,069 county
governments. Founded in 1935, NACo brings county officials together to advocate with
a collective voice on national policy, exchange ideas and build new leadership skills,
pursue transformational county solutions, enrich the public's understanding of county
government and exercise exemplary leadership in public service. Learn more at
