`Ele`ele family displaced by house fire
`ELE`ELE — A three -bedroom home on Akalei Street in `Ele`ele was damaged by fire
Tuesday morning, displacing a family of four.
A female occupant and a child were home when the fire started, and were able to safely
exit the home without injuries. The two other residents were not home when the fire broke out.
Hanapepe firefighters were first on scene shortly after 10 a.m., and found flames coming
from one of the bedrooms of the single -story house. Firefighters were soon joined by personnel
from the Kalaheo and Waimea fire stations, as well as the on -duty Battalion Chief.
The fire was brought under control within minutes and fully extinguished by
approximately 10:30 a.m.
There was significant fire and smoke damage throughout the home. Fire inspectors
estimate the fire caused roughly $300,000 in damages to the structure and its contents.
Volunteers with the American Red Cross are assisting the displaced family.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
