Wainiha-H5'ena placard exchange deadline extended to Sept. 24; updated
schedule announced
County of Kauai officials are extending the placard exchange deadline for Wainiha-
HA`ena residents and non -governmental agencies to Monday, Sept. 24.
Please see the updated table below for the various locations, dates, and times for the
placard exchange.
As a reminder, all goldenrod August work passes are valid until Sept. 24.
The County of Kauai began exchanging placards issued to Wainiha-HA`ena residents
and non -governmental agencies in early August, in an effort to combat a rash of thefts and
attempted unauthorized access into the Wainiha-HA`ena area.
Window decals are being installed in exchange for the existing issued placards, indicating
the vehicle has authorized access to pass the Waikoko checkpoint. The existing placard must
match the vehicle in order for an exchange to occur. Exchanges do not require any new
paperwork or any additional forms to be filled out.
All residential and non -governmental agency placards will expire after Monday, Sept. 24,
2018. Until that date, both the new decals and original placards will be honored by checkpoint
staff during the transition.
Beige governmental contractor passes issued by either the state Department of
Transportation or the County of Kauai, or Waikoko-only access resident passes, requires
exchange and will expire on Sept. 24.
