Managing Director ALDEN ALAYVILLA, PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER Tel (808) 241-4909 Fax (808) 241-6877 Committee on the Status of Women to `Paint the Town Pink' LIHU'E — The Kaua'i Committee on the Status of Women (KCSW) will be getting pink on purpose for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The public is invited to join the KCSW for a Breast Cancer Awareness walk "Paint the Town Pink." The event will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2018, starting at 11:30 a.m. at the Mo`ikeha Building Rotunda. To start, an energetic warm-up will be led by Bev Brody with Get Fit Kaua'i. Following the warm-up, the walkers will head down Kuhi6 Highway to Wilcox Medical Center for quick light refreshments and then return to the rotunda. Participants are encouraged to wear anything pink to show their support of those affected with breast cancer and to remind women of the importance of early detection. Participants should also wear comfortable walking shoes. Center. This year, KCSW is partnering with American Cancer Society, and Wilcox Medical Healthy refreshments will be provided after the walk at the Mo`ikeha Building Rotunda. The KCSW is hosting the walk in recognition of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an annual international health campaign promoted by major cancer organizations. The County of Kauai has pledged its support with a display of pink lights at the Historic County Building from Monday, Oct. 1, to Wednesday, Oct. 31. The KCSW is part of the Hawaii State Commission on the Status of Women, which strives to advance the status of women and girls by acting as a catalyst for positive change through advocacy, education, collaboration and program development. The KCSW meets on the third Wednesday of the month. The next scheduled meeting is on Oct. 17, at 5 p.m., Mo`ikeha Building, Meeting Room 2A and 2B. All KCSW meetings are open to the public.
