KPD narrows down truck description involved in Sunday's hit-and-run
KALAHEO — Police have narrowed down a description of the alleged vehicle involved in
the hit-and-run crash that occurred Sunday night on Halewili Road, in Kalaheo, which resulted in
the death of a male pedestrian.
Based on the debris left at the scene, police believe the involved vehicle is a silver
Nissan Frontier truck, with 4-wheel drive, made between the years of 1998 and 2004. The
vehicle would have significant damage to the front passenger -side bumper and fender flare.
Police are asking for anyone with information about this incident to call KPD's Traffic
Safety Section at 241-1618. This includes anyone who may have heard or seen anything while
travelling on Halewili Road on the night of Sunday, Sept. 30, sometime between sunset and 11
p.m.
Those wishing to remain anonymous can call CrimeStoppers at 246-8300.
According to a preliminary investigation, the pedestrian was walking in the eastbound
lane of Halewili Road when he was apparently struck by a vehicle heading west. The involved
vehicle was not at the scene when police arrived.
The man's body was transported to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he was
pronounced dead. The man has not yet been identified, but police believe he is possibly in his
mid -twenties.
An autopsy is pending.
Halewili Road was closed in both directions, from approximately 11:20 p.m. Sunday to
3:45 a.m. Monday, to allow KPD's Traffic Safety Section to conduct an on -scene investigation.
The crash remains under police investigation.
