Traffic crash results in highway closure, arrest
ANAHOLA — A three -car crash that occurred Wednesday night resulted in the temporary
closure of Kuhio Highway, between Anahola and Kealia, and the arrest of an Anahola woman.
No major injuries were reported.
The incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. According to a preliminary investigation, a
northbound Honda SUV was driving along the shoulder of the southbound lane on Kuhi6
Highway, near mile marker 12, when it struck an oncoming Subaru SUV. The impact
subsequently caused a southbound Mazda pickup truck to crash into the Subaru.
The crash caused major damages to all three vehicles.
The male driver of the Subaru, age 45, of Oahu, reported no injuries. The 85-year-old
driver of the pickup truck, and his 78-year-old female passenger, both of Anahola, also reported
no major injuries. They were all checked by medics and released at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, 19-year-old Carmen Rodarte of Anahola, did not report any
injuries and was arrested at the scene for suspicion of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence
of an Intoxicant. She was taken into custody and released after posting $750 in bail.
Police officers closed Kuhio Highway for approximately 40 minutes while the scene was
investigated and cleared of debris.
The investigation remains ongoing.
