Sewage spill results in Thursday traffic crash
WAILUA — A sewage spill on Kuhio Highway on Thursday night resulted in a single -
vehicle traffic crash in the vicinity of Leho Drive near the Hilton Garden Inn in Wailua.
One person reported non -life threatening injuries.
At approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, a Silver Honda Pilot traveling northbound
drove over a manhole, which had its cover dislodged from the sewage spill that had occurred
earlier in the evening. The manhole caused damages to the Honda SUV.
EMT personnel responded and treated the 63-year-old passenger of the vehicle for pain
to her arm. The injury did not require hospitalization.
A portion of the outer northbound lane of Kuhio Highway — at the north -junction of Leho
Drive near the Hilton Garden Inn — remains closed until Saturday evening as crews continue
work to repair a damaged sewer line.
Motorists should expect severe traffic delays and adjust their travel times as needed.
Officials are asking the public to avoid this area if possible. Updates on the repair work
will be given as new information is available.
