Rescuers search for missing diver
WAILUA — Rescue specialists will resume search efforts on Sunday for a 55-year-old
LThu`e man who was reported missing Saturday in waters off of the beach area known as
Marine Camp, near the Wailua Golf Course.
His identity has not yet been released.
According to a preliminary report, the man was diving with a friend Saturday morning,
and was last seen standing on the reef in the water while attempting to retrieve a fishing net.
The friend lost sight of him, and called 911 shortly before 9:30 a.m.
Kapa`a firefighters, lifeguards on jet ski, Rescue 3 specialists aboard Air 1, and the on -
duty Battalion Chief responded to the call and initiated an air- and sea -based search. The U.S.
Coast Guard also assisted in the search with its Air Station Barbers Point HM-65 Dolphin
helicopter and Station Kauai 45-foot Response Boat Medium.
Officials suspended the search at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday, and will resume
Sunday morning.
Updates on the search will be given as information becomes available.
