Mayor Managing Director COUNTY OF KAUA`I KAUA`I FIRE DEPARTMENT News Release For Immediate Release: November 5, 2018 ROBERT WESTERMAN, CHIEF Tel (808) 241-4980 Fax (808) 241-6508 Firefighters extinguish structure fire in Kalaheo, brush fire in Kapa`a KALAHEO — Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out early Monday morning on Kaumuali`i Highway in Kalaheo, and a small brush fire on Sunday evening in Kapa`a. At approximately 2 a.m. on Monday, firefighters from the Kalaheo fire station were dispatched to Kaumuali`i Highway, in Kalaheo, where they found a single -story house on fire. The structure was vacant with no occupants, and no injuries were reported. Once on scene, firefighters brought the blaze under control within minutes, and confined the fire to the home's kitchen and laundry room. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire and cleared the scene by approximately 3:30 a.m. Fire inspectors estimate the damage to the structure to be roughly $100,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. At approximately 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, firefighters from the Kaiakea fire station responded to a brush fire along the Kapa`a Bypass Road — between the roundabout and the Crossroads Christian Fellowship Church. The Kapa`a Bypass Road was closed for approximately 15 minutes while firefighters extinguished the roughly 1,000-square-foot fire. The scene was cleared at approximately 6:15 p.m. No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened. The cause of the brush fire is not yet known.
