Public reminded of free residential vehicle disposal service offered at Puhi
Metals
LIHU`E — The County Solid Waste Division reminds the public that vehicle disposal is
free of charge for residents at Puhi Metals Recycling Facility. Puhi Metals Facility is located at
3951 Puhi Road and is open Monday to Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and can be
reached at 245-6919.
Legal owners may dispose of vehicles free of charge by completing a Junking Affidavit.
Owners must surrender license plates and the certificate of title, along with the Junking
Affidavit form to the County of Kaua'i Motor Vehicle Registration Division.
Residents may dispose of up to three vehicles per year free of charge utilizing the
Waiver, Release, and Indemnity Agreement form. A fee of $62.50 would be applied to each
additional vehicle after the first three disposals. A Waiver, Release, and Indemnity Agreement
form is accepted if a Junking Affidavit cannot be obtained. Once license plates and titles are
surrendered, vehicles must be transported or towed to Puhi Metals Facility for recycling. Puhi
Metals will require a copy of the Junking Affidavit or Waiver, Release, and Indemnity form in
order to accept the vehicle for recycling.
Both forms are on the county website at www.kauai.gov/vehicledisposal.
Please visit the vehicles disposal webpage as there are restrictions on size and use
of vehicles that are exempt from administrative/processing fees. Tow truck operators are not
allowed to complete the Junking affidavit or the Waiver, Release, and Indemnity Agreement
form for residents.
Tow Truck Operators:
For towing of abandoned vehicles from commercial properties, operators will be
assessed the administrative fee for utilizing the waiver form. It is up to the tow truck operator to
pass this fee on to their commercial customers.
For more information, please call the County Recycling Office at 241-4841.
