Search for missing woman to resume Friday
PRINCEVILLE — The search for a missing woman in waters off Queen's Bath in
Princeville will continue Friday.
Police have identified the woman as 23-year-old Yayun Cheng of California.
Hanalei firefighters, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and lifeguards on Jet Ski initiated the search
shortly before noon on Wednesday, when witnesses reported seeing the woman unresponsive
in the water.
According to a preliminary report, Cheng was attempting to climb the rocks near the area
known as Queen's Bath, when a wave came up and swept her out to sea.
Over the past two days, collaborative response efforts were conducted by the Kauai Fire
Department, Ocean Safety Bureau, and the Kaua'i Police Department, with assistance from the
U.S. Coast Guard on Wednesday.
So far there has been no sign of the woman.
Search operations will resume Friday morning, with all involved agencies.
Volunteers with Life's Bridges, a grief counseling service, are assisting Cheng's family.
