ADA access improvements, additions to Hofgaard Park complete
WAIMEA — The County of Kauai Housing Agency is announcing that construction on
access improvements aligned with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for Hofgaard Park
is complete and the park open to the public.
The $255,139 project is funded with federal monies from the Housing and Urban
Development (HUD) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and administered through
the County of Kauai Housing Agency.
"After months of work, we are glad that this wonderful park is now accessible to
everyone," said Mayor Bernard P. Carvalho Jr. "It is crucial that these types of improvements
benefit all our residents and visitors, and the addition of these ADA walkways and new ADA
picnic tables and benches means everyone will be able to enjoy this park in the heart of
Waimea."
The West Kauai Business and Professional Association was awarded the contract, and
subcontracted Tomco Corp. to complete the construction work. Bow Construction Management
Services Inc. was subcontracted to direct the project management.
Contractors excavated the site, removed trees and curbed areas, added new curbs,
ramps and ADA walkways, and installed new ADA picnic tables and benches.
Improvements to the park include ADA compliant walkways, picnic tables and benches.
