Dozens attend friendship city signing ceremony for the County of Kauai
and the City of Candon
LIHU'E — Several dozen attended a friendship city signing ceremony for the County of
Kaua'i and the City of Candon at the Mo'ikeha Courtyard in LThu'e on Tuesday.
"As both of our homes continue to prosper into the future, we will strengthen the bond of
friendly partnership and enhance the life of our communities as well as our visitors," said Mayor
Bernard Carvalho Jr.
Representing the municipality from the Philippines was Mayor Ericson G. Singson and
his delegation from Candon City.
"We are very grateful for the positive and generous response of the Kaua'i County
administration to our initial outreach for friendly relations," said Mayor Ericson G. Singson.
"From this momentous day when we sign our friendship city relationship, the future is still
unknown but our expectations are hopeful and positive."
A friendship city agreement is a stepping stone to a potential sister city agreement. The
County of Kaua'i currently has five sister city agreements with the Philippines since 1991.
"We are hopeful that this friendship sister relationship may blossom into a sister city
partnership, where we can exchange ideas and learn, grow, and prosper in agriculture, the arts,
and tourism," said Mayor Carvalho.
