County to prohibit vehicular access to shoreline at Hanalei Black Pot Beach
HANALEI — The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that vehicular access to the
shoreline at Hanalei Black Pot Beach, between the Hanalei River mouth and the Hanalei Pier, will be
prohibited as of Friday, Sept. 15 due to beach erosion.
"We have been monitoring this area for the past few days and the erosion has come to a
point where it is dangerous for vehicles to attempt to access this area," stated DOPR Director Lenny
Rapozo. "Vehicular access to this area will be blocked until further notice as a safety precaution."
Officials also report that the erosion has begun to expose the roots of the Ironwood trees
along the shoreline. Crews will be trimming those trees on Friday to mitigate the safety concern while
attempting to keep the trees intact.
The public is reminded that the County has a designated public parking lot along Weke Road,
across from Black Pot Beach Park.
Park users are urged to use extreme caution when visiting Black Pot Beach.
