Duties Summary:
Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the sound, lighting and
control systems at the Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall; performs maintenance and
repair of the facility; and performs other related duties as required.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This class is distinguished by its responsibility for the proper operation and
maintenance of the sound, lighting and control equipment systems and maintenance and
repair of the facility at the Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall.
Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily
descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does
not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical
assignment for the position).
x Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of the sound, lighting and
other control equipment systems;
x Demonstrates the sound and lighting and control equipment systems and
requirements to users;
x DiagnoseV and inspects the technical and mechanical problems of the stage lighting
equipment, may repair as necessary or refer to a licensed electrician;
x InspectV and testV equipment to determine repairs needed;
x Conducts operational tests on and periodically inspects air conditioning systems and
troubleshoots as needed;
x Sets up and dismantles the portable sound system and assures its proper operation;
x Assists a licensed electrician in replacing electrical fuses, fixtures, switches, facility
light bulbs and fluorescent light ballasts;
x Maintains and repairs sprinkler systems and toilet fixtures such as wash basins,
toilets, and urinals;
x Assists manager in enforcing rules and regulations on use of facility;

x Opens and secures facility for users;
x Performs janitorial duties such as sweeping, mopping, polishing, washing floors and
walls and simple maintenance repair work;
x Performs groundskeeping duties such as raking, mowing, weed-eating, and irrigating;
and
x Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification Requirements for the Class:
Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially
equivalent to graduation from high school and three (3) years of experience in the operation
and maintenance of sound, lighting and control equipment systems, and supplemented by
experience in the maintenance and repair of minor electrical and plumbing work.
Knowledge of: the operation of the sound and lighting and control equipment
systems; the practices, tools, materials and equipment used in the plumbing and electrical
trade; occupational hazards; safety practices and procedures.
Ability to: work with sound, lighting and control equipment systems; use hand and
power tools utilized in the plumbing and electrical trades; do mechanical work; determine
need for repairs; understand and follow oral and written instructions; enforce pertinent rules
and regulations with tact and courtesy.
Health and Physical Condition:
Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and
physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential
functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

This is an amendment to the specification for the class, FFACILITY MAINTENANCE WORKER,
which was approved on December 27, 2012, and is to be substituted for that specification.
