HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 2020-36COUNTY COUNCIL COUNTY OF KAUA`I �CSO�Uii01t� �� RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING TURN LANES ALONG MALUHIA ROAD, KOLOA DISTRICT, COUNTY OF KAUA`I WHEREAS, Chapter 16, Article 2 of the Kauai County Code 1987, as amended, authorizes the County Council to create, define, re -define, eliminate or change all traffic lanes and crosswalks; WHEREAS, Chapter 16, Section 16-5.1 of the Kauai County Code 1987, as amended, authorizes the County Council to designate speed limits; WHEREAS, Maluhia Road is located in the Koloa District, County of Kauai, State of Hawaii; WHEREAS, The Department of Public Works, based on an engineering and traffic investigation, has recommended that designated turn lanes be established on Maluhia Road at several locations; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF KAUA`I, STATE OF HAWAI`I THAT: SECTION 1. Right turn only lanes are hereby established as shown on Exhibit "A', attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, at the following locations: • On Maluhia Road in the southbound direction, from approximately 250 feet north of its centerline intersection with Koloa Road to K61oa Road. • On Maluhia Road in the northbound direction, from approximately 280 feet south of its centerline intersection with Ala Kinoiki to Ala Kinoiki. SECTION 2. Left turn only lanes are hereby established as shown on Exhibit "A", attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference, at the following locations: • On Maluhia Road in the southbound direction, from approximately 150 feet north of its centerline intersection with K61oa Road to K61oa Road. 1 • On Maluhia Road in the southbound direction, from approximately 180 feet north of its centerline intersection with Ala Kinoiki to Ala Kinoiki. SECTION 3. A left turn merge lane is hereby established on Maluhia Road in the southbound direction for traffic turning left from Ala Kinoiki to Maluhia Road, from Ala Kinoiki to approximately 150 feet south of its centerline intersection with Ala Kinoiki, as shown on Exhibit "A", attached hereto and incorporated herein by reference. SECTION 4. The Department of Public Works shall install appropriate signs and pavement markings to designate the redefined traffic lanes that are established herein in accordance with the provisions provided by law. SECTION 5. Any person convicted of violating any provisions of the Traffic Code of the County of Kauai, Chapter 16, Kaua`i County Code 1987, as amended, shall be subject to the penalties prescribed in Section 16-21.6. SECTION 6. This Resolution shall take effect upon its approval and the installation of appropriate signs and pavement markings.
