HomeMy WebLinkAbout7.098 TREE TRIMMER 20200224PART I DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 7.098 Class Specifications for the Class: TREE TRIMMER BC-04, BU-01 Duties Summary: Trims and prunes trees, shrubs and hedges and saws and chops up branches; and performs other related duties as required. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from classes in the General Laboring series in that the Tree Trimmer is primarily concerned with tree trimming tasks which involve working at various heights; whereas, classes in the General Laboring series are concerned with performing a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks which may occasionally involve tree trimming tasks not requiring experience or training or specialized knowledge and abilities. Examples of Duties: (The following are examples of duties and are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in this class. The omission of specific duties statements does not preclude management from assigning such duties if such duties are a logical assignment for the position). • Climbs trees of varying height with or without the aid of spikes or with the assistance of a hydraulic powered bucket unit in trimming and pruning trees, shrubs and hedges along county highways, streets, parks and other public grounds; • Operates a power saw and various pruning tools in trimming and pruning trees; saws and chops up branches; • Loads truck with debris resulting from cutting tree branches, leaves, etc.; • Performs landscaping tasks; • Acts as a guide for the aerial platform operator when working in a confined area; • Observes rules and regulations applicable to the protection of public and private property and public and personal safety; and • Performs other related duties as required. PART I TREE TRIMMER 2 7.098 Knowledge of: The use and care of pruning tools, tree climbing equipment and power saws; tree trimming techniques and practices; and safety practices and procedures. Ability to: Climb high trees using climbing spikes and other equipment; work above the ground at varying heights; operate hand and power tools and equipment; operate vehicles and simple machinery; understand and follow oral and written instructions. This is an amendment to the specification for the class, TREE TRIMMER, which was approved on March 10, 1989 and is to be substituted for that specification. ANDERSON Director of Human Resources PART II DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES COUNTY OF KAUAI 7.098 Minimum Qualification Specifications for the Class: TREE TRIMMER BC-04, BU-01 Training & Experience: A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school, and: • one (1) year of experience in the care and maintenance of public grounds, lawns and landscaped areas, which shall have included the trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs. Substitutions Allowed: The following may be substituted for education: A. Four (4) years of full time general work experience may be substituted for a high school diploma. B. Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited community college, college or university, trades school, etc., may be substituted for a high school diploma or equivalent. The following may be substituted for experience: A. An International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist credential for one (1) year of experience in the care and maintenance of public grounds, lawns and landscaped areas, which shall have included the trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs. B. Associate's, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in from an accredited college or university in arboriculture, horticulture, landscape architecture, forestry or a related field for one (1) year of experience in the care and maintenance of public grounds, lawns and landscaped areas, which shall have included the trimming and pruning of trees and shrubs. If work experience or a degree is used to substitute for a high school diploma, it may not be used again for the experience requirement. Substitutions will be used to the advantage of the applicant. PART II TREE TRIMMER 2 7.098 Quality of Experience: Possession of the required number of years of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for a position. The applicant's overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that he/she has the ability to perform the duties of the position for which he/she is being considered. License Requirement: Possession of the appropriate licenses or certificates as required of the position. Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. Agencies requesting Selective Certification must show the connection between the kind of training and/or experience on which they wish to base selective certification and the duties of the position to be filled. Tests: Applicants may be required to qualify on an appropriate examination. Health and Physical Condition Requirements: Persons seeking appointment to positions in this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Physical Effort Grouping: Heavy This is an amendment to the specification for the class, TREE TRIMMER, which was approved on March 10, 1989 and is to be substituted for that specification.
