4 p.m. DOW update - Water service update for Kapahi area, water
conservation request continues for DOW customers
KAPAA — The Department of Water (DOW) activated a temporary power source at the Kapa'a
well site in order to begin water service restoration to its Kapahi customers, as of approximately
2:30 p.m. this afternoon. Some customers in the area may begin to experience water service,
however DOW asks that customers limit water use to essential uses only, in order to allow water
tank levels to stabilize, while Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative officials work to restore electrical
power at the well site this evening.
The water conservation notice for all DOW customers will remain in place until further
notice. Customers are asked to continue water conservation measures in an effort to maintain
water services where available until electrical power, system repairs and well site functions can
be restored to normal, island wide. Water conservation measures include limiting water use to
essential uses only; such as cooking, drinking and sanitation purposes.
An update will be provided as soon as new information becomes available
As DOW officials continue water system assessments island wide, customers are reminded that
during and after severe weather conditions, DOW may shut off valves and isolate water tanks to
reduce the risk of damage, conduct emergency repairs or to prevent water loss. Customers are
advised to stay tuned to news reports, sign up for BlackBoard Connect CTY at
www.kauai.gov/KEMA and to monitor water service announcements online at
www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW.
