Kaohelaulii Information & Education Specialist Phone: 808- 245-5461 Mobile: 808-755-5432 Email: jkaohelaulii@kauaiwater.or Water service shutdown reminder for Hanapepe area on March 19 HANAPEPE —The Department of Water (DOW) reminds customers of the scheduled water service shutdown for customers located on a portion of Puolo Road; from Hanapepe Road to Kaumuali'i Highway, including some customers located near the intersection of Puolo Road and Kaumuali'i Highway in Hanapepe. The water service shutdown will also include the Shell gas station located at the intersection of Kaumuali'i Highway and Iona Road in Hanapepe. Water service will be turned off on Tuesday, March 19th from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March. 20th, weather permitting, in order to tie-in a temporary 12-inch waterline to the existing system, as part of the Hanapepe-Ele'ele Water Systems Improvements Project. Customers located in the affected area are advised to prepare for the overnight service shutdown by taking the following steps: • Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown. • Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors that may be affected by the service shutdown. • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown. • Businesses should plan appropriately prior to and during a service shutdown. • Customers are advised that when the water main is turned back on after a shutdown, air and or existing sediment may be mixed into the water causing it to appear white or discolored. This is normal and if it occurs, customers may flush water out from an outside hose bib until water is clear. • To monitor water service updates online, visit www.facebook.com/KauaiDOW. A trailer -mounted water tank containing potable water will be available for customers and will be located near intersection of Puolo Road and Kaumuali'i Highway in Hanapepe. Customers are asked to bring their own containers to fill up.
