Wainiha-Ha`ena passes to be distributed in Hanalei on Fridays,
starting Jan. 25
HANALEI — In an effort to assist the Wainiha-H5'ena community with flood recovery work,
the County of Kauai will move its Friday distribution of passes from Lihu'e to Hanalei starting next
week.
Beginning Friday, Jan. 25, passes for verified residents and temporary workers will be
available at the Hanalei Neighborhood Center every Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The County's Planning Department will continue to distribute passes at its office located at
the Lihu'e Civic Center every Monday, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. However, passes will no longer be
available in Lihu`e on Fridays.
The following passes are available upon approval.
Permanent Residential Decals:
To receive a residential decal, Wainiha and H5'ena residents must physically bring their
vehicle to the designated distribution site and be able to prove that their identity matches the
residency and ownership information in the County's real property tax database. Documents that
prove residency, such as a real property tax bill or a utility bill, must show an address and must
also match a government issued photo ID presented by the applicant. Trust documents may be
required for those homes held in a trust, or marriage certificates for spouses of owners.
Temporary Weekday/Weekend Passes:
Insurance adjusters, utility company personnel, private contractors and others needing
temporary access to work in the Wainiha-H5'ena area may apply for a five-day weekday pass, and
a two-day weekend pass through the designated distribution sites above.
Those visiting the Hanalei Neighborhood Center on Fridays can only apply for a weekend
pass, as passes are produced every Monday on a week -by -week basis.
To receive a weekday and/or weekend pass, individuals must bring a work order or
authorization from the landowner listed on the County's real property tax database. Planning
officials may call the landowner to further verify the applicant's information and to ensure the
individual is seeking to conduct legitimate business in the Wainiha-H5'ena area.
Weekday and/or weekend passes will be distributed to no more than two passes per
company or organization, per address. No overnight stays are permitted with these passes.
Passes are limited in quantity, and will be distributed first -come, first -served.
